Vivien Oakland
What else can you do but laugh?

VIVIEN OAKLAND

b. May 20, 1895; d. August 1, 1958
Appeared with Laurel and Hardy in 6 films.

Other notable films: Uncle Tom's Cabin (1927); Keystone Hotel (1935); Smash Up, The Story of a Woman (1947)

A versatile actress with a flair for broad comedy, Vivien Oakland worked almost nonstop in films from 1915 to 1950. The vivacious blonde actress specialized in two reelers, often appearing in the films of Edgar Kennedy and Andy Clyde. Oakland was also an infrequent but always welcome Laurel and Hardy co-star. She had a few highly impressive moments with the Boys, including the laughing scene in Scram! and playing the uncomfortable recipient of Ollie's stagecoach smalltalk in WAY OUT WEST. But her slow-burning, stoic performance in We Faw Down may very well have been the finest and funniest of her short Laurel and Hardy career. She maintained a friendship with Stan Laurel until cancer claimed her in 1958.
