WALTER LONG

Walter Long
No caption... just a really cool picture

b. March 5, 1879; d. July 4, 1952
Appeared with Laurel and Hardy in 5 films.

Other notable films: The Birth of a Nation (1915); Six of a Kind (1934); also numerous silent features and shorts from 1909 to 1929, and several Western serials throughout the 1930's.

Long was the quintessential "tough 'n' ugly mug" who specialized in playing gruff lowlifes. He began his career in 1909 when motion pictures were in their infancy and worked for many of the top silent directors including Griffith and Sennett. Outside of his work with Laurel and Hardy (including PARDON US, their first feature), he is probably best remembered as the heavy in numerous Hopalong Cassidy westerns. Long also appeared in several Broadway shows and served with the Military Police in Washington, D.C. during World War II.
